Frequently asked questions

  • The Mock Trial at UCI program is a highly selective and competitive mock trial team. It is currently ranked #8 in the nation and has competed at Nationals and performed well there many times across the last decade, most notably earning 4th place in its division at Nationals in 2023. The award-winning competitors within this team will be teaching participating students the tools they need to succeed in the college mock trial setting.

  • All students must be a current high school students or rising college freshmen. They must register by our June 28th deadline and complete the payment. And they must have a Zoom account (free or school-provided is fine) and internet access during the bootcamp.

  • Our summer bootcamp isn’t recommended for repeat students as we use the same case each year.

  • No. All events and programming will occur online over Zoom.

  • Yes. As long as the student is a current high school student or soon-to-be college freshman, students outside of the United States can participate. However, please note that all instruction and events will be scheduled to accommodate students in the United States, and will happen within the timeframe of 9 am to 3 pm Pacific Time (12 pm to 6 pm Eastern Time).

  • Absolutely. The bootcamp will be helpful to current mock trial competitors by helping them advance their skills, especially in content development and in performance confidence. The bootcamp can also prepare students to compete at the college level in the future.

  • Not at all! While we anticipate many of our participating students will be current mock trial competitors, prior mock trial experience is not required. We will give all students the context they need to participate fully in the event.

  • Through this program, students will get experience understanding the real parts of a trial. The objections they will learn come from the Federal Rules of Evidence used throughout the United States. Students will also get to participate in the pre-law community, building friendships with peers interested in a career in law, and have opportunities to network with real lawyers and learn more about their experiences in law.

  • Because many of our students are interested in college mock trial, we’ll be adapting a prior college mock trial case. All materials for the case will be sent out a week in advance so that students have time to review it before joining the first session.

  • Yes! Parents, friends and family members are welcome to join us virtually for the final trials on Saturday, July 20. You will be able to watch your student perform on Zoom, all while you are off camera as an observer.
